The first successful call on an Inmarsat IsatPhone was made on Jan 26, 2010. This is one of many successfully passed milestones that have been made ahead of the June 2010 launch of the new IsatPhone Pro handheld satellite phone.
The IsatPhone Pro satellite phone will offer voice communication with Bluetooth hands free use. Services will include voice mail, email, and text messaging. The user will also have location service that can be looked up by the user and send in a text message.
The IsatPhone Pro satellite phone will use the Inmarsat series 4 satellites which will offer a very reliable satellite communication network to its users. Lockheed Martin has completed the upgrade of Inmarsat’s ground network. Test will continue on the integration between the ground communications network and the handheld IsatPhone Pro.

Elcoteq will be manufacturing the IsatPhone Pro for Inmarsat. Elcoteq is the world’s third largest manufacture of mobile phones. Their facility is in Tallinn, Estonia.
