Inmarsat, a leading provider of satellite communication services, has launched their IsatPhone Link service…a new fixed satellite phone service.
The IsatPhone Link service is based on the award winning IsatPhone Pro handheld satellite phone. IsatPhone Link will provide the same voice, email and data services in a fixed satellite phone installation. The service will be available by June 30, 2011.
The IsatPhone Link will be simple to set up and will include a satellite phone, up to a 50 meter cable and a small external antenna. The external antenna connection is required to obtain line of site communications to one of the Inmarsat I-4 satellites which provide virtually worldwide coverage. IsatPhone Link will provide single and multi-user capability and can provide a wide range of other services.
Inmarsat is targeting the new service at its core market which requires phone and data service in remote areas where landline and cellular service is not dependable. Their market sectors include construction, oil and gas, utilities and emergency aid. The IsatPhone Link is very quick to set up and is perfect for the early stages of field operation. It provides a reliable communication back-up to all other communications and it is simple to operate for the workers on site.
The IsatPhone Link can easily be developed into a pay-phone service. Tourist traveling to remote areas can now have comfort in knowing satellite phone service is available in case of an emergency. Restaurants, hotels and retail stores in remote areas can now use the IsatPhone Pro data service providing credit card service and Internet access.
With the global coverage of the IsatPhone Pro in a fixed site unit Inmarsat believes it will open up a wide variety of industrial sectors and environments.
Inmarsat has partnered with Beam Communications which is the manufacturer of the IsatPhone Pro docking stations. Beam Communications is launching two IsatPhone link products which include the Terra 400 and Terra 800. The Terra 400 is dust and splash proof and features a RJ11/POTS interface which corded and cordless off the shelf phones can be plugged into the unit. A PABX can also be integrated into the unit though the RJ11 interface. The Terra 800 is one step above the 400 providing an integrated handset, built-in menu screen, and multiple exterior SIM slots for multiple users. Both the Terra 400 and 800 provide data access though a USB.
Just like the IsatPhone Pro the IsatPhone Link will provide voicemail, text and email messaging. Free emails and texts can be sent to an IsatPhone Link through the Inmarsat website. Low speed data up to 20kbps is provided.
