Satellite service provider TerreStar Networks Inc. successfully completed an end to end satellite phone call over TerreStar-1, the world’s largest communication satellite. The end to end call was made between tow of TerreStar’s quad-band GSM and tri-band WCDMA/HSPA smartphones
.According to representatives at TerreStar this certifies that their network is operational and their satellite network is performing well.
In orbit testing of TerreStar-1 will continue. TerreStar is on track to provide integrated satellite and terrestrial communications, to provide critical communications anywhere in the U.S. and Canada to government agencies, emergency responders, and rural communities.
The Terrestar satellite network will operate in two 10-MHz blocks of contiguous MSS spectrum in the 2 GHz band. This will be available everywhere in the U.S. and Canada covering a population of nearly 330 million.
